For thousands of fire-affected families, this wasn’t just another back-to-school season—it was the first since the Los Angeles fires, and a major milestone for children and parents navigating displacement, temporary housing, new schools, and so much uncertainty.
24LA welcomed more than 1,500 families for a Back to School Block Party designed to make that milestone feel joyful. We distributed 1,000 new backpacks, brand-new clothing and cosmetics, alongside free haircuts, food trucks, and a full day of experiences.
Our friends at Sole Support brought brand-new shoes for the entire family—not just students, but parents and adults too. Kids customized denim with Levi’s, designed their own jewelry with Rocky Jewelry, took skateboarding lessons with Skate Haven, and participated in our Dear Future Me writing station and community mural. With lawn games, activations from Starface, the Unwell team, and more, plus music from KCRW DJ Jeremy Sole, the day became a true community celebration.
More than preparing kids to go back to school, it was about giving families a moment of joy, creativity, confidence, and connection as they stepped into what came next—together.
